A Little Birdie

We've had some great weather the past few days- today was in the 60's so OF COURSE we had all the doors and windows open.

Somehow a little bird found his way into our living room, so Darrin scooted him out to the deck and he just sat there and stared at us instead of flying away.

He even let Darrin pick him up.

So cute!

I love him!

Even Banjo didn't freak him out.

He hung out for about 5 minutes then took off.

And that was our Sunday excitement!

That was FABULOUS! Afraid I am not a fan of caged birds, but adore this kind of interaction... your photos are wonderful. What do you shoot with and what settings for those colours??

What a wonderful experience. I had stopped by a filling station, a gas station to you youngsters, and a sparrow had flown into the office and was beating itself to death against the big plate glass windows. I managed to catch the bird, calm it and I took it outside, through it up in the air and it took off... and I've got that picture in my mind still after more than forty years. Thank you for this post.

Only Diane and Darrin could "whisper" a bird to their home and hand!! Banjo is a very gentle soul - I'm sure he wanted to adopt it.

Love you!

What a neat experience! How strange he would be so tame, do you think he could have been someone's pet once? Afraid I don't know much about birds or what kind that is. What a nice dog you have to not want to hurt the bird.

Sweet little birdie, how cool.
Someone's parakeet escaped and visited us in our back yard last week. He was about to hop in my hand until the cat from next door made a move.

He was precious, I wonder what was going on with him?

i think maybe he was in shock so he didn't take off right away? we literally have NO NEIGHBORS so i don't know how he could have been someone's lost pet.

bush babe- i shoot with a canon 5d- i only tweaked the saturation a tad in photoshop- the colors were pretty right on!

maybe it was my grandma visiting :)

I think bushbabe mentioned to me you were pregnant, but I didn't realise you are due about exactly when I am.

BTW - I need the habanero jelly recipe!

Cute bird - we had one in the house recently, but he was more freaked out by our cat (who was his transport in) than anything!!

Diane, I love that last photo! What a classic.

What you guys had was a Least Flycatcher (Empidonax minimus). They are very common in Iowa during the insect season...they're great fly catchers...hense the name.

We have them outside the kitchen windows sitting on the yard and pasture fences...watch them long enough and you'll see them dart out and back real fast...catching bugs on the wing.

Enjoy the birds!
