The Note

I recently picked up 'The Ultimate Guitarist' for Darrin at my favorite Goodwill store. As he was flipping through the book, a receipt with a note written on the back of it fell out. He noticed that the date on the receipt was from June of '96 and was from the Westin Resort on Hilton Head. The receipt was for one virgin raspberry daiquiri ordered from the Pelican Pool.

Don't you wish you could have been a fly on the Pelican Pool's wall that day?

It was the summer of '96 and Magan(?)was on vacation in Hilton Head with her parents. She sat at the pool daydreaming of the local boy she had met earlier that morning....hoping he liked her more than her 'twins'. The twins were usually the first things boys noticed about her, and this made her sad.
So she decides to leave him a note, on his surfboard, in hopes they could secretly meet again that night...

Did they ever meet?

Did she get caught sneaking out?

Did Brett keep that note tucked away in his guitar book all these years as a reminder of his one lost love?

Does Magen still wonder where Brett is today?

Did Brett become the ultimate guitarist even though his heart was broken?

Is he famous?

Is she a stripper?

We may never know!

Goodwill Hunting

If anyone loves to find a bargain it's me.....
IT'S ME!!!!

Some call me "thrifty", others call me "frugal".....but most just call me "cheap".

Tomato /Tomahto. Whatever.

I have no problem admitting that most of the toys and clothes I buy for Henry are used. Craigslist, garage sales, thrift stores, hand-me-downs, Goodwill.
You name it, I find it.
The only 'new' things he has are gifts from friends and family.

Poor little orphan.

Recently I discovered a new Goodwill store just over the state line right next to Hilton Head, SC.
(For those of you not familiar with Hilton Head, it's a place where the rich and famous hang out). I'm sure you can imagine the sheer joy I experienced when I discovered this SWANKY new Goodwill....it's so fancy that the dish towels and wash cloths are neatly pressed and folded on hangers. Seriously!

OMG this Goodwill is my new obsession. I need help.

Here's my most recent find...I got everything for under 20 bucks.
Cha-Ching!
2 bright and happy dish towels (neatly pressed of course!)

A xylophone for Henry

A Columbia hat for Henry (for our 10 weeks of winter)

KICK ASS big boy cowboy sheets....

Henry's 2011 Halloween costume. I might give a prize if someone can guess what it is.

I don't know WTF this thing is-but I'm pretty sure I can't live without it. I love it and I want more.

And finally.......the greatest breadbox ever...

because I didn't even notice the stamp until Darrin made a joke about how this breadbox pretty much described our marriage....

HaHa- good one sweetheart. Kind of goes along with our recent Valentine fortune doesn't it?
You know what they say......one man's trash IS another man's treasure......right darling?

Daydreams

There is a blog called Mila's Daydreams, where this super creative mom would post wonderful photos of her baby in different 'dream scenes'. She has since stopped posting new Mila scenes, mainly because of some negative comments and opinions from the complete idiots of the world.

This totally sucks because I miss them! They were SO GOOD and would always make me smile. Always.

So in her honor I tried one of my own with Henry.

"Jager Cowboy" is dedicated to Mila and her fabulous mommy.

Wife 101

After months of silence, Darrin finally informed me (ever so sweetly) that his pants were not being hung properly in the closet.

Apparently there is a method to this madness involving the crease?

I'm sorry what?

CREASE
?

What the f*ck is a crease?

Of course I immediately blamed my domestic ignorance on my mother, (sorry mom!) as I explained to him that I did not take Home Economics in High School, so where else was I expected to learn about womanly duties CREASES other than from my mom?

His answer: "The United States Navy.........and we'll work on how to iron next"

God Bless America.

He was kidding about the ironing. I think.

For The Birds

For the record, I had extremely high hopes for today's entry.
Last week I was having one of those days where nothing seemed to be going right. Shocker. So Henry and I headed to the beach because the ocean always seems to make things right again.
Anyway, as we were playing in the sand I glanced over at our tote bag and thought it could make for a really uplifting post....

I was going to find some beautiful quote or poem about HOPE, and it was gonna be all happy and gushy and inspiring and leave you with a big smile on your face and a sweet song in your heart. I even thought that maybe, just maybe, the little bird watching us was some good omen or something.

Really, these are the things that go through my mind.

But then that sweet little bird flapped his wings, flew through the air, landed on the edge of the tote, looked right at me........... and took a dump.
I couldn't make that up if I tried.

It was just so perfect for the day I was having that I decided to go ahead and ditch the whole beautiful poem plan- and write a little Haiku instead:

bird sits patiently
waiting for perfect moment
to shit on di's HOPE

And the lesson for the day:
"Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue."

Where I've Set Foot

We all know that I'm a little weird.

A kind of lovable weird though.

Many years ago I started a tradition where I would take a picture of my foot whenever I went somewhere or saw something worth remembering.

I think my first might have been in 2001 at the Tintern Abbey in Wales.

Then there was one in Costa Rica...

Bahamas...

with Samuel L. Jackson...

Mexico...

Hawaii...

You get the idea.
And if you're that bored, I have several more in a gallery OVER HERE.

The last time I did a foot shot was when D and I got married on 8/8/8:
"My Married Foot in Texas"

I can't believe I went 2.5 years without a new foot shot!

But finally last weekend I was inspired by the extra wide, perfectly square, Fred Flintstone footprint left in the sand by my little man.

And the tradition lives on......

"Our Feet in the Sand"
