Say Cheese

I'll admit that sometimes I miss certain conveniences of The Big City. Nothing like not being able to find feta cheese at the only grocery store in town to push a hormonal pregnant chick over the edge. It's not really even a huge deal because I'm still not sure if I'm supposed to eat stupid feta cheese or not- because I read that I'm only allowed certain types of pasteurized cheese and I don't even know if feta is one of them. ANNOYING.

So I head home pouting and dreaming of the days when I lived in Atlanta and my grocery store ALWAYS had lots of feta choices.
But then my mind jumps to an article I read that said Atlanta is the 2nd least safe city in the U.S., and I'm reminded of why we traded certain conveniences for peace of mind.

And even though I am feta-less, I can honestly say that when I look back....

I like what I see.

I'll take cows over crime any day.

I'm really looking forward to seeing your Iowan cows. And I agree with Joanna - I'd love it if you guys got some goats. I'd be there with the granddogs and Chicken Little every day, playing with the goats!

When your talking cheese, pasteurized only refers to the milk used to make the cheese. So if your feta states that, you ought to be O.k. It's any cheese labeled RAW MILK that the CL'S can't handle. But as always, ask your doctor. It will be fun to see if the crime rate drops when Mom L leaves Atlanta

Small towns gotta love the shopping challenges. When I first moved to LaFayette, GA I couldn't find any bagels so asked the store manager and not only did they not carry them.....he'd never heard of them! They did carry alot of fatback though :)

Hey, BHB, I'm a GOOD girl! I do not contribute to the crime rate. Well, except for speeding, maybe. And my dear SIL, I can feed your goats corn (I'll steal) from the nearby farms...does that count as volunteering? Joanna, do they like corn? Cheryl, I'm worried that the store won't have my favorite old-fashioned salad dressing! Guess I'll have to learn the almost-as-good substitute.

Lookie here BHB, Mom l isnt even here and she is already planning to steal corn, apparentley she doesnt know that farmers shoot people for stealing their livelyhood!

Feta would have made me up-chuck when I was pregnant.
The only "food" I could eat for two whole weeks was chocolate milkshakes. Luckily for me, you can get those just about anywhere.

and BHB, such cheese and the pregnant lady know how. Well done!

Ya'll just keep a running list of Southern grocery items you're craving and I'll bring them when I visit. There will be NO trasport of Feta cheese though. Delicious but waaay to stinky!

Dude. You photographs kinda make me want to move to where you are. And I just spent at the afternoon at the beach which is pretty awesome for a beach lover like me. But those sheep? They are rivaling beach right now......simply gorgeous.

Happy weekend.

I agree, get the goats, make your own feta (really good stuff!) and sell a bunch to support the goats. Voila! Or add an angora goat or 2 to the bunch and shear them and sell the fiber to your fiber-addict friends. :-)
