A Little Birdie

We've had some great weather the past few days- today was in the 60's so OF COURSE we had all the doors and windows open.

Somehow a little bird found his way into our living room, so Darrin scooted him out to the deck and he just sat there and stared at us instead of flying away.

He even let Darrin pick him up.

So cute!

I love him!

Even Banjo didn't freak him out.

He hung out for about 5 minutes then took off.

And that was our Sunday excitement!

Passing Wind

Today Darrin and I went for a drive and ended up at the Tower Of The Four Winds.

"This 44-foot tower in Black Elk-Neihardt Park stands as a memorial to John G. Neihardt and Black Elk, the Lakota Sioux holy man. The tower features a mosaic that depicts Black Elk's message of peace and unity for all people. Along a paved walking trail, mosaic markers continue the "theme" of Black Elk's vision."

Very cool and almost as fascinating as what we saw on the way back:

Um, what?

Why Yes Mom, I Did See A Barn Quilt In Sac City!

This one was my favorite.

I just can't get enough of Barn Quilts.

Not nearly enough.

PS- BHB- this is a barn quilt. It won't keep you warm. LOL.

Jiffy Pop

I know it's hard NOT to be jealous of my celebrity-like lifestyle, but try to stay strong people.

I woke up this morning and felt the urge to take a drive and ended up in Sac City, IA- home of the World's Largest Popcorn Ball.

That's right....the time has finally come....together at last.

And if that wasn't exciting enough, next door was a cute old schoolhouse.

We all know how I love old schoolhouses.

And an old post office.

With leather post cards!

And some random dinosaur artifact?

Fun stuff!

Call Me Betty

Earlier this week a friend brought me a HUGE zucchini from her garden. It was so pretty I was inspired to make my first ever zucchini bread.

Of course we all know I don't bake- so I had to get all the basics like flour, sugar, baking powder, etc. from the grocery store. I had all my supplies lined up on the counter when I realized I was missing one ingredient so back to the store I went.

I came home to this lovely treat in our bed:

FU#@&!% DOGS!!!!

I wonder which dog is to blame?

Guess I'll never know.

Luckily there was just enough flour left in the bag for my bread!

Which came out pretty dang good if I do say so myself.

Mama Don't Take My Kodachrome

I recently heard that Kodak is retiring Kodachrome film this year.

WOW.

And even though I haven't used film myself for over 5 years, it's still kind of like losing an old friend ya know?

So in honor of my old buddy Chromie, I dug out my very first Double Exposure from 1983 when I was about 13 years old.
OMG it's horrible! I had wrapped black sheets around my pets in hopes of creating a floating head effect. Oh the fun I used to have with film.

The back cracked me up too. Exposere?

Farewell my sweet, sweet Kodachrome.

Farewell.

*SIGH*

Tooting Lola Nova's Horn

I'd like to share with everyone a recent creation by Lola Nova. I sent her a very old blanket that was my Grandmother's and she transformed it into these adorable animals for me!

I LOVE them!

LN also included with the blanket animals many other fabulous things she made for Chicken Little, like this adorable 'Mess Kit' (burp cloth, bib and changing pad)....

and this awesome little hippie hat among other things.

Darrin loves the hat so much he wants a matching one in his size- LOL!

You can read more about the very talented Lola Nova HERE.

Thanks so much for everything LN- you totally Rock the Casbah.

TOOT TOOT!

Rainbows & Popcorn

I forgot about the rainbow that showed up in our front yard the night before I left for Atlanta to get my mom. Rainbows always make me think of Grandma, so I figured it was her way of wishing us a safe trip.

Thanks for watching over us Grandma.

I meant to post it before I left and forgot.

And speaking of posts- I don't know what's wrong with me but I can't find anything to blog about lately. I told my dad that it must be Blogger's Block.

D and I will be celebrating 1 year of ball and chain bliss tomorrow- maybe he'll surprise me and take me to see the World's Largest Popcorn Ball. Now that would inspire me to blog!
Because we all know how I love BIG BALLS......

I'm Back!

I'm pleased to announce that I have safely returned from Atlanta with my mother and her cat.

WHEW.

Has anyone ever driven 900 miles with one of these?

I HIGHLY recommend it.

NOT.
